In honour of the new female surrealist exhibition hitting Paris tomorrow, at Musée de Luxembourg, I am continuing with my new body of surrealist works as we speak.

The first piece is inspired by Frida Kahlo’s legendary The Dream (The Bed), painted during her healing period after the terrible accident, representing several aspects of her life, from the disconnect and dissonance with reality, to her close calls with Death, intertwined daily struggles with pain and suffering, and constant questioning of her own gender and identity.

My interpretation will be a triptyque, over 3 canvases.

My version of Frida’s bed will be in the middle canvas of the triptyque, with the bed posts stretching down into a Dali-esque landscape with my usual pyramides and symbols, as well as melting Dali clock reinterpreted with melting iPhones, in the bottom canvas of the 3.

The skeleton representing death in Frida’s piece is reinterpreted above my version as two alien-like neutral non-binary figures in an embrace, just like my pieces from the Groupe Clarins show, where we represented the LGBTQI+ community as almost otherworldly aliens.

There are a few smaller pieces coming along at the same time, all based around the idea of “In Her Room”, in bed, intimate moments, etc.

I shall update soon as the pieces move forward. Stay tuned!
