Week 2
It is late.
I am a night owl.
This is when the creative juices start flowing, just after midnight. Tomorrow is our term 1 week 2 lesson. I am getting ready.
Outside, I can hear hundreds - perhaps thousands - of people enjoying the Parisian nightlife. They are far enough away to make me feel safe in my neighbourhood, but they are close enough for me to feel their energy, their raucous laughter, the clinking of glasses and the roaring of motorbikes up and down the Boulevards and Avenues.
Actually, I live in a very quiet area, but I can still hear Paris. It is not as quiet as where I love in London, but it is definitely quiet enough to meditate and sleep well at night. The energy of the history and passion of Paris is always heavy in the air though, especially after Summer sinks reluctantly into Autumn, wrapping the city with a cold snap within its icy claws. Paris then makes the most welcome rise up, back to an almost Summery temperature, for a night or two. There, during this exceptional window of opportunity, the animated souls are out again, for as long as possible, reliving the nostalgic taste of their fleeting holidays, lapping up the exquisite colours before they fade again, into Haussmannian grey.
Bohemian, Free, Living. That is what I love about Paris. Red or grey, night or day.
This city is always alive.
Always present.
Always on.
Hello Miro.
Holà Joan Miró.
This was one of the group exercises we created as a trio.
The free-flowing late night think tank appreciates learning about a new tool for my own clients and students.
Here is the artist introduction I prepared for the first week’s exercise.
I hope it is not too long, too visual, too black, too much. Or, perhaps it should be even more so?
I wonder how I will ever create a signature style, or perhaps all of my different styles are already a signature?
How will galleries or collaborative events ever reach out and choose me if I am not clear about what I want to stand for?
This could be a visual signature, surrealistic or otherwise, perhaps a business standpoint, a political perspective, or the beginning of a new movement.
Throughout the next two years, I would like to explore identity - my identity, the global identity - as well as love, sexuality and power.
I want to boost visibility for female artists, queer artists, immigrant and indigenous artists, that is for sure.
I certainly want to do more curating and art show creation in the future, that also goes without doubt.
It would be very exciting to organise something with the class, the school, the whole network.
I know that I have the contacts, the strategy and perhaps even the process, to make it work.
I have lots of ideas - as usual! Perhaps we will have time to discuss them all?
The creative consulting hat is very much on tonight.
I must not sleep too late.
Dear Sandman.
See you.
