I like big brushes

…and I cannot lie!

Part of my unit 1 feedback was:

“What would happen it you as an artist is just to let go, empty your mind and paint? Maybe deliberately use a 60cm household paint brush to mix things up….”

Getting bigger and bigger with my experimentations was only the beginning:

“Maybe a visit to an artists studio…”

Spending summer @ POUSH was a beautiful eye-opener:

There is something absolutely wonderful and liberating with huge formats vs the tiny, detailed pieces I am used to creating with fine line ink pen.

It has been since 2023 that I have been using more colour and bigger canvas, and this year I truly feel ready to go the next mile.

Update in August 2026 while in Taiwan:

Several organised meetings and guided tours later, I have deepened my knowledge of calligraphy, and am fascinated by the huge brushes and brush strokes of Tong Yang-Tze (董陽孜) among many others. My mother herself is a fantastic calligraphy artist, as is her friend 陳秀敏. Here are some images from one of the many excellent calligraphy exhibitions I saw, this particular one was at the Kaohsiung Fine Arts Museum, on one of the many, many floors full of art and spirituality:
