A New Tarot

Inspired by Leonora Carrington, but also by my very good friend Julie, a professional tarologue and card reader, I am creating my own deck of tarot cards.

We are going to create this together with Julie, and I will make sure to keep as many elements of my “signature style” as I can.

One important point here - there are so many tarot card decks. What is the point of making another?

We represent Paris in 2026. We also represent France, UK, Taiwan, and many other countries and cultures.

We would like to honour these cultures, as well as places that have shaped us and our friends: Switzerland, Corsica, Guadaloupe, and many countries that are deeply magical and esoteric…

Our friends - chefs, architects, doctors, poets, actors, et al - will also give us their ideas and feedback for the tarot design.

This deck will have a name, and will represent a point in time when the world was on fire, so it is important that we fully recycle everything we do, and that we find a way to give back.

This deck will also be developed and printed with a brand or company, for support - financial and visibility - in order to make our message even clearer.

As for the design!

So far, I have managed to identify the following elements:

• A surrealist landscape with a horizon and realistic perspectives to follow

• Aliens or non-binary beings, generally in couples, a mix of convention and non-convention, a beautiful hybrid of love

• Detailed line drawings that are inspired by M. C. Escher, Narnia’s C. S. Lewis’ illustrator Pauline Baynes, and many others

• A mixture of imaginary faces and my own portrait, inspired by Frida Kahlo’s self-portraiture and the importance of female artists taking a stand and being visible

• Black and white for now, colour coming later, perhaps digitally

• Smaller formats (A4) that will be printed as actual tarot card sized (70 x 120 mm) with the correct GSM (300/350/400GSM)

There are 78 cards in a standard tarot card deck, made up for the Major Arcana (22 Cards) and Minor Arcana (56 Cards).

We are starting with the Major Arcana cards, with Julie’s input for the important messages to be integrated into each card, and then we shall move onto the Minor Arcana.

Exciting stuff!

This is one of my many projects I plan to finish this summer.

Not necessarily at Poush residency, but also in Taiwan when I am with family, as the format is A4 and goes perfectly in my computer case, alongside the fine line ink pens.
