Today, I challenged myself (again) to do a new thing (again!).

This is becoming a habit.

“Is it still new if you do it all the time”, I hear you ask?

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

So what happened during class today?

What was the new thing I did?

Well, first things first, we met Ben - the CSM librarian + much more - and he took us through all of the tools and functionalities available to us.

Wow, there are a LOT. I think I need to go full-time on this course to be able to benefit from all the resources, to be honest.

I might try and do that during the Christmas holidays, I don’t see any other way around it.

So, time and resource management aside, we then did a few group exercises…

What did we learn?

Well, firstly, that the library is huge. Secondly, that it could indeed be more “digital” or “modernised”, but the copyright situation on the majority of books (and theses) means that it cannot be transformed into a purely digital library in the blink of an eye. Thirdly, that this would be a great place to start for our Study Statement bibliography. And so on.

  • Reflect: I love a good library. Remember when I won the Barnet Library Card design competition back in the day? Fun times. I used to live in Stanmore Library. I also used to live in the Henrietta Barnett School library and art rooms. So this is a full circle coming nicely to its next spiral upwards.

  • Plan: As Tracie mentioned, and Ben too, in our breakout group - it is all about structure. I need to structure library time into my week. I need to structure drawing and painting and creating into my week. It is just a lack of structure, not a lack of desire.

  • Act: The 60 week plan will come later, but right now, I should already plan until the end of the year.

  • Observe: Yes. Let’s see what happens. I am truly in a phase of learning and teaching and learning and teaching. It is BEAUTIFUL!

Then, what was the new thing I did?

I presented this

It was well-received, I believe!

The purpose was really to offer more options for shows that weren’t just Pride-related, or Paris-related. Hopefully that was the message that came across.

Let’s go!
